School curriculum progress
22/02/2012
Michael Russell today saw the progress made in implementing Curriculum for Excellence at Saint Peter the Apostle High School in Clydebank.
As part of broader engagement with all education partners, the visit will give pupils, teachers and parents a chance to explain more about their experiences of Curriculum for Excellence and their thoughts as they look ahead to new qualifications in 2013/14.
Mr Russell said:
“I enjoy every opportunity I have to visit schools across the country to speak to parents, teachers and pupils alike. It is particularly useful to be able to speak with S2 pupils at Saint Peter’s who will be among the first to take new qualifications in 2014.
“I understand that change can give rise to questions and concerns, but I would like parents, pupils and teachers to know that every local authority in Scotland has committed to full delivery of Curriculum for Excellence. What’s more final versions of the documents for the new qualifications will be published, following extensive consultation, at the end of April this year.
“A great deal of help has already been provided but we will continue to offer full support to those teachers that require it. The timetable for dealing with any requests from subject departments for additional support in implementing the new qualifications will be finalised shortly.
“I hope parents, pupils and all those involved in education will see the hard work and effort that teachers and schools are investing in the delivery of the new curriculum. I firmly believe the prize of giving our young people the skills they need for learning, life and work will be delivered and will be worth the effort.”
